THE BAD:
PAINT:
*The color that you see is the original color of the car. It has been re-painted and the paint job is not so good.
BODY:
*The doors and front fenders are showing signs of previous body work: it does not look to be extensive.
*The chrome teardrop lights mounted to the back of the front fenders and the side pipes mounted on the rocker panels are not functional.
*Some of the chrome trim is loose.
GLASS:
*Butterfly vent glass is starting to bubble.
*Door window glass is cracked on both sides.
*Roll-up mechanisms on all windows need lubrication.
INTERIOR:
*Various odors due to aged upholstery and an unfortunate dead mouse or two. No cigarette smoke.
*Headliner, door panels, rear wall panels and rear window deck upholstery all need work or replacement.
*Seats and upholstery are original vinyl and will also need some work.
*The foot-feed pedal is there but detached.
*The FLOOR PANELS look ok. The floor trunk panels are ok but the spare wheel well is rusted through.
MECHANICAL:
*Valve cover gaskets need to be replaced.
*Kick-down cable from carburetor to foot-feed linkage needs to be re-set. The engine could stand a tune up.
*The brakes on these cars never were very good and this car is no exception: I had planned on replacing the master cylinder and the entire braking system with disc brakes.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:
*The gas gauge works sometimes: plan on replacing the sending unit and possibly the fuel tank.
*Most dash lights work, all the external lights are currently working.
*Windshield wipers work but the motor is weak.
*The ignition switch is weird. It’s been wired only to provide power to the "starter button" and accessories: in other words, turning the ignition switch fully to the right does not start the engine. There is a button just below the ignition switch that starts the engine: go figure. (But the engine starts fine after about four pumps of the foot-feed).
*Dimmer switch works.
THE GOOD:
LICENSE & TITLE:
*Licensed until September 2007.
*Clear Title in my name.
BODY:
*This is a Chevrolet. Virtually every part of this car is available from somewhere on the planet. Unlike Fords, you can virtually re-build a Chevrolet from after-market catalogs.
*Except for the cowling/deflector under the front bumper, this car's body is all there.
*The uniqueness of this body style ranks right up there with the '59 Buick and Caddy. Wings were the style back then. But the combination of lateral wings and cat-eye tail-lights are un-mistakable and exclusive to the '59 Chevy. The body, for the most part, is straight.
WHEELS & TIRES:
*These are some fairly expensive items on this car. The mag wheels have locks and a special wrench to remove them (theft prevention). They come as you see them in the pictures. The wider profile offers a lot more comfortable ride than stock tires. And they're about as wide as you'd want to put on this car.
INTERIOR:
*Although the interior needs a lot of work, apparently nothing has been done to the floor. The original factory seat mounts are there as a template if you decide to completely replace the seats with something from a later model car. Everything is available as a template.
*The interior is all there except for original carpet.
*Windshield and rear windows are ok.
ELECTRICAL:
*To my knowledge, the wiring harness has not been altered.
*There is an AM/FM Cassette tape deck mounted under the dash. *The radio in the dash is original.
*I have a set of keys for the ignition.
MAINTENANCE:
*As I said earlier, I have made no modifications to this car except some maintenance. I replaced the front wheel bearings and the carrier bearing. Transmission was flushed once since I've had it.
MECHANICAL:
*This car is sold with a 327 CID engine installed. It starts and runs fine. These are fairly rare. They are one of the few motors I know of that generate more horsepower than cubic inch displacement. This car moves! It has headers. It has true dual exhaust, (I don't know what kind of mufflers), and it sounds VERY good. (Radiator, water pump, fuel pump are all is working). The engine doesn't seem to burn oil.
*The odometer currently reads 47, 677. It read 46, 041 when I bought it. I believe, (but cannot prove), that this chassis has only 147, 677 miles on it: the engine, far less than that.
*Here are some specs the way the previous owner gave them to me: The Engine: 327 CID from a 1969 GMC pickup, 194 heads, big valves, high lobe cam. The Transmission: shortnose 350 Turbo Hydromatic. The Rear End: Posi-traction from a 1960 Nomad.
*INCLUDED with this car is the original 283 CID motor which needs an overhaul: it's all there and will be placed in the trunk for transport.
